Alcohol testing in the workplace should be based on a clear and well-established alcohol and drug policy. We help you introduce procedures with a legitimate basis, support with negotiations under the Co-determination in the Workplace Act (MBL) and a practical policy tailored to your organisation.
The choice of method depends on the purpose of testing. Breath tests are used to assess current alcohol impairment, while blood tests such as PEth and CDT are used to monitor alcohol consumption over time. EtG can be analysed in urine or hair depending on the desired detection window.
Alcohol tests can be carried out as rapid tests in the workplace by a manager, HR or a trained sample collector. Blood samples for PEth and CDT can be taken at our partner clinics or through mobile sampling when needed.
Where needed, samples are sent to an accredited laboratory for analysis of, for example, PEth, CDT or EtG. Confirmatory analyses are performed using reliable laboratory methods, such as LC-MS/MS, for high quality and a sound assessment.
In the event of positive or abnormal results, a medical review can be carried out by an MRO physician. Results are then reported digitally via the Provsvaret portal, providing secure and structured handling for the employer.
For background on why workplaces test, and how a routine is built, read Why drug test in the workplace? and How to build a routine for drug testing in the workplace.
Results are obtained immediately at the time of sampling. Where needed, the result can be supplemented with a verifying blood test.
Results are normally provided within 1 to 2 working days of the sample arriving at the laboratory.
Orders placed before 14:00 are normally delivered the next working day anywhere in Sweden.
For larger assignments and procurements, we can arrange sampling on site at your premises.
Alcohol test results are sensitive personal data under Article 9 of the GDPR. We process them as your data processor, with a signed DPA, a narrow circle of recipients, a defined retention schedule and an encrypted portal.

It depends on what you want to measure. A breath test is the standard for assessing current impairment. PEth (in blood) shows a consumption pattern over 2–4 weeks and is used when investigating alcohol misuse. CDT shows elevated consumption over 2–4 weeks. We help you choose the right method for your use case.
