HVB homes and treatment facilities have two distinct testing needs: monitoring residents as part of a treatment programme, and screening staff with access to vulnerable individuals. Provsvaret supports both processes with legally sound routines and GDPR-secure handling.

Drug testing as part of the treatment programme — objective monitoring of sobriety for voluntary or LVU (compulsory care) placements. Frequency and method are governed by the treatment plan and the National Board of Health and Welfare's guidelines.
Background screening at hiring and ongoing random checks — a quality marker for staff working with vulnerable individuals. Follows the framework of the Work Environment Act and your alcohol and drug policy.
An initial drug test is often carried out on intake to HVB care to establish a clear baseline. A broad urine panel, such as Multi-21, is typically used for more comprehensive screening. Testing can be supplemented with analysis of other specific substances if needed.
Frequent testing during active treatment, less often during follow-up. Typically 1–3 times a week during an intensive phase, monthly after stabilisation. Results are documented in the record and shared with the treatment team as routine.
Pre-employment screening for all staff with direct resident contact. Random checks on a rotating schedule. Suspicion-based testing following documented observations or incidents.
Specialised setups for addiction care where frequent checks are central — we coordinate sample collection points, mobile sample collection, and self-administered kits depending on the institution's setup.
The most common choice for HVB. Widest detection window, established practice, quality-assured routines.
Observed collection without a toilet situation. Ideal for privacy-sensitive environments.
Up to 90 days of detection — good for longer follow-up or investigations.
Confirmation analysis with GC-MS / LC-MS/MS for legally sound results when needed.

Provsvaret holds procurement agreements with several Swedish municipalities and social services. Framework agreements for ongoing HVB screening, one-off testing for social services investigations, and dedicated contacts for municipal customers. We handle invoicing per municipal routines and can integrate with your systems.
For young people placed under LVU (compulsory care), there is legal grounds for testing without consent. We follow the National Board of Health and Welfare's guidelines and the municipality's decision. Provsvaret is happy to advise on the specific setup.
